To celebrate its 30th anniversary, IKEA Malaysia is supporting Yayasan Generasi Gemilang (YGG) in helping bring Ruang Play, its first dedicated parent-child community learning centre, to life through the donation of IKEA products that help create a more functional, welcoming and inspiring learning environment for underserved children and their families.

Designed as a parent-child community learning space for underserved children aged zero to five, Ruang Play addresses a growing need for accessible early learning opportunities, especially for families facing long waiting lists for public kindergartens or who feel they need more support in their children’s early years.

At IKEA, ‘play’ is more than just fun. It is how children explore the world, develop confidence, and build the foundations for lifelong learning. With this belief, IKEA Malaysia’s support for Ruang Play reflects its commitment to creating spaces that help children and families spend meaningful time together while making everyday moments of learning and discovery more accessible.

“We believe creating a better everyday life extends beyond the home. It means helping build a society where every child has the opportunity to learn, play and realise their potential,” said Amanda Low, Country Marketing and PR Manager, IKEA Malaysia. “As we celebrate 30 years in Malaysia, we wanted to give back in a way that creates lasting social impact. At IKEA, our vision has always been to create a better everyday life for the many people. That means going beyond furnishing homes to creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and supporting the wellbeing of children and families. Through initiatives like this, we hope to inspire positive change that lasts far beyond our stores, building stronger communities today while creating a brighter future for generations to come.”

At Ruang Play, IKEA Malaysia has contributed a range of thoughtfully curated products such as the iconic BILLY bookcase, DUKTIG play kitchen, HUSET dollhouse and many more, to let young children naturally play, explore, and learn. Beyond furnishing the space, these solutions help create environments that evoke imagination, independent discovery, and meaningful interactions between children, parents, and educators.

“The earliest years of childhood are some of the most important in shaping a child’s growth. Every family deserves access to spaces that support those moments, regardless of their circumstances,” said Melissa Ngiam, CEO of Yayasan Generasi Gemilang. “Yet for many underserved families, access to quality early learning isn’t always easy.  Ruang Play was created to give underserved children and their families a place where they can spend meaningful time together through play and exploration. With IKEA Malaysia’s support, we’re able to create an environment where parents feel more confident engaging in their child’s development, educators have a thoughtfully designed space to deliver meaningful experiences, and children can simply enjoy being children.”

The initiative forms part of IKEA Malaysia’s 30th Anniversary “Thank You Malaysia” celebration, reflecting the brand’s continued commitment to creating a better everyday life for the many people. By helping create spaces where children can play, learn and thrive, IKEA Malaysia hopes to inspire everyday moments and bring them into homes across the community.
