We urge all netizens to be careful while engaging in recreational activities during the long weekend!

A 31-year-old man from KL, known as Joshua Sia Hanyang, reportedly drowned and passed away during an outing with his friends at the popular Pelangi Waterfalls in Sungai Lembing yesterday morning.

At 6:40 am, the victim and his friends gathered at Linming Street before they took a four-wheel drive to Rainbow Falls. The deceased was last spotted alive sitting on a stone underneath the waterfall.

According to China Press, the video source was obtained from an eyewitness who did not intend to capture the man’s drowning. The witness claims to have been a visitor at the waterfall at the same time that the incident occurred. In the video, the victim is briefly spotted struggling amidst splashes on the bottom right of the screen.

It seems that while the victim was swimming, he encountered difficulties and disappeared under the water. The Star received a statement from Kuantan District Police Chief ACP, Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali,

“The victim’s friend said they managed to pull out the victim, who was unconscious, before calling the Fire and Rescue Department for help.”

However, the firemen only reached the waterfall area at around 12:30 pm. The delay was due to the fact that they first needed to make the climb to the waterfall before they could bring the victim down to Lubuk Beruk.

The eyewitness who captured the video said cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was practised on the victim and he reportedly opened his eyes briefly. Unfortunately, he could not be saved.

The deceased was brought to Sungai Lembing, where medical officers pronounced him dead. The body was then brought to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, where a post-mortem was carried out.

Rest in Peace, Joshua.

As for active netizens partaking in outdoor activities, please be aware of your surroundings and stay safe!
