When going out, especially when it’s a short run to the grocery store, most of us prefer to keep the things we bring to a minimum and with e-wallets, we would even forgo our physical wallet.

However, this might be a bad move as a man in Sibu, Sarawak was jailed for a month after he was asked to produce his IC and couldn’t do it.

According to See Hua Daily, 27-year-old Wilson Peter was at Jalan Temple in Sibu at 2.30pm on 25 January when he was asked by the police officers there to show his identification card.

However, he was unable to produce his MyKad as he did not bring it out.

Wilson was then accused of violating Section 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which carries a jail term of not more than 3 years and/or a fine of not more than RM20,000.

After pleading guilty at the Magistrate’s Court, Wilson’s sentence was set at a fine of RM2,000 which he was unable to pay, so, he had to go to jail for a month instead.

We’ll make sure that we bring our identification cards whenever and wherever we go.
