The Sabah State Government has launched e-BusKK, its first electric bus service in the state which will serve the Sepanggar-Menara Kinabalu-city centre route. Part of a 6-month pilot project under the state government’s strategic investment arm Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB), it will be expanded next year with more buses and routes.

As reported by national news agency Bernama, the initiative was made in order to provide better public transport services to Sabahans. Furthermore, the people will be able to enjoy the electric bus service for free throughout the 6-month pilot project.

For now, the initiative will be running only one electric bus and will be getting feedback from passengers on its service. Furthermore, the bus provides eco-friendly travel, has a capacity of 54 passengers and is equipped with a ramp to provide easier access for the elderly and persons with disabilities on wheelchairs.

The bus is also equipped with CCTV cameras for passenger safety, global positioning system (GPS) and driver monitoring system. e-BusKK was part of the initiative to reduce carbon emissions in Kota Kinabalu by 2050.

Following this pilot project, e-BusKK is expected to start operating next year with about 20 buses. Awesome!

So, what do you guys think of this initiative by the Sabah State Government? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
