If you’re a Penang resident or planning to go to the Pearl of the Orient next week, then do take note that there may be considerably more traffic on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, more commonly known as the Penang 2nd bridge, from next Tuesday to Thursday.

This is because part of the Penang 2nd bridge will be closed for cable inspection work from 9 am on April 23 until 5 pm on April 25.

Contra lane will be activated

In a press release by Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB), the company responsible for operating and managing the Penang 2nd bridge, the closure involves KM12.5 to KM18.5 of the bridge.

Accordingly, JKSB will activate the contra lane throughout the 3 days to respond to the temporary closure.

JKSB further clarified,

“The temporary closure is to make way for cable inspection work on the main span and will operate as usual after the inspection.”

Hence, JKSB advises road users to be aware of the signboards erected on the bridge throughout the three days and adhere to the instructions given.

JKSB also thanked all road users on the Penang 2nd bridge for their cooperation during the closure. Should they face any emergency or want the latest traffic update on the bridge, they can call JKSB’s hotline at 1-300-30-2828.

Take note, guys, and plan your journey with the closure in mind. So, what do you guys think of JKSB’s statement? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
