There have always been incidents of wild animals finding their way into neighbourhoods and onto highways in Malaysia. And sadly, some of these animals end up in horrible situations.

Netizen wnurulhusna took to her TikTok account to showcase a bear rolling on the ground from pain on the East Coast Expressway (LPT2) near Kuantan, Pahang, after it had apparently been hit by a car. Another netizen, Khairul Nizam, took to his Facebook page to showcase dashcam footage of the same incident.

Khairul Nizam wrote, “LPT2, KM 422, Kuala Terengganu towards Kuantan. This video was taken when I was passing by there at noon yesterday (November 3). I was among the earliest to pass by this incident. I was shocked that everyone on the road was slamming their emergency brakes at the same time.”

“From afar, I thought a rider had gotten hit because its size is big, just as big as a human. Only when I drove near it did I realise it was a bear. It was trying to get up but couldn’t. Maybe (its bones) were broken. After that, I called LPT2 (management) to send a patrol unit. Pity the bear, I hope PERHILITAN takes it for treatment.”

He added that there were monkeys nearby behaving weirdly, probably from witnessing the accident involving the bear.

We, too, hope that the authorities will assist in ensuring the bear receives treatment before being returned deep into the jungle, where it can be safe from vehicles on highways.
