Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged Malaysia’s unwavering support to Lebanon as they face escalating aggression from Israeli forces.

Taking to his social media profiles, he also promised that Malaysia is ready to provide financial assistance to Lebanon.

He wrote, “I received a courtesy call from my Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit. In this meeting, I expressed Malaysia’s continued support for Lebanon, which is currently facing the madness of the Zionist regime of Israel.”

He went on to explain how Malaysians have also been affected by this as 6 members of the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) have been injured in an Israeli attack in Lebanon, where they were participating in the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) mission.

With that, Anwar Ibrahim extended a helping hand.

“I also informed PM Mikati that Malaysia is ready to channel financial assistance to Lebanon to help victims affected by the Israeli attack,” he added.

However, Malaysians are not happy about this.

Many took to social media to express their disappointment over our Prime Minister’s offer of financial assistance for various reasons including the increase in our national debt as well as the lack of finances for aid among Malaysians.

“There’s no need to show that you’re a hero. There’s already so many more issues and problems in Malaysia that require finances, such as our health and education system. Malaysia is not a superpowered economy to be donating to other countries.”

Lebanon 2

“PROVIDE FINANCES TO MALAYSIA FIRST LAH.”

Lebanon 3

“His own people don’t even have enough to eat.”

Lebanon 4

“Between debt and donating, it is better to settle debts first.”

This comes after Anwar Ibrahim recently confirmed, in a Parliamentary written response (question 12), that the national debt has increased by RM66.6 billion as of September 2024, making it a total of RM1.24 trillion.
