PM Muhyiddin Thanks Residents of Kampung Bantal, Pahang For Saving MOH Staff After Boat Sinks

Yesterday (December 20), an incident happened when a boat carrying three employees from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) sank in Sungai Tembeling, Pahang.

Luckily, they were saved by the residents of Kampung Bantal, Jerantut, Pahang.

Following the incident, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Kampung Bantal residents for successfully rescuing the health workers.

Through a post shared by MOH on their Facebook page, the appreciation speech was delivered through Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

Terima Kasih Kepada Penduduk Kampung Bantal, Ulu Tembeling YAB Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin menyampaikan ucapan terima kasih dan penghargaan kepada penduduk Kampung Bantal yang membantu dan menyelamatkan tiga orang petugas KKM dalam satu kejadian bot karam tengahari tadi.Penghargaan dan ucapan terima kasih YAB Perdana Menteri itu disampaikan menerusi YB Menteri Kesihatan, Dato’ Sri Dr Adham Baba. Pihak kepimpinan tertinggi KKM dan semua warga Kementerian Kesihatan juga turut mengucapkan terima kasih kepada penduduk Kampung Bantal. KKM amat menghargai dan menyanjung tinggi tindakan berani tersebut. Segala kebaikan dan semangat setiakawan yang ditunjukkan oleh penduduk Kampung Bantal ini harus disuburkan menjadi nilai-nilai murni dalam masyarakat Malaysia. Pengorbanan ketiga-tiga petugas KKM yang terlibat dalam kejadian itu amatlah tinggi dalam melaksanakan tugas dan amanah mereka pada negara ini. Anda semua adalah wira-wira barisan hadapan negara.Detik cemas terjadi tadi bila tiga orang kakitangan Klinik Kesihatan Kampung Bantal di Taman Negara Jerantut Pahang nyaris lemas bila bot yang mereka naiki terbalik dan dibawa arus Sungai Tembeling.Tindakan berani 20 orang penduduk Kampung Bantal berjaya menyelamatkan ketiga-tiga petugas KKM yang sedang perjalanan merawat pesakit di Kampung Mat Daling, Ulu Tembeling. Kejadian berlaku pada jam 1.30 tengahari tadi, di Jeti Klinik Kesihatan Kampung Bantal bila paras air sungai naik melebihi paras amaran. Bot dikatakan terbalik berpunca daripada masalah enjin sebelum tersangkut pada pokok di tebing sungai. Akibat kejadian itu, semua petugas KKM tersebut hanyut dibawa arus. Sebaik menyedari kejadian itu, kira-kira 20 orang penduduk kampung bergegas menyelamatkan semua petugas KKM. Tiga petugas KKM yang diselamatkan oleh penduduk kampung adalah seorang penolong pegawai perubatan, pekerja am klinik dan seorang tekong. Penolong pegawai perubatan dan tekong bot sempat berpaut pada dahan pokok berhampiran lokasi kejadian manakala pekerja am terbabit berpaut pada bot dan dibawa arus sejauh 300 meter sebelum berjaya menyelamatkan diri dengan bergayut di dahan pokok berhampiran. Semua petugas KKM yang memakai jaket keselamatan kemudiannya diselamatkan oleh penduduk Kampung Bantal yang datang membantu. Bot Kementerian Kesihatan yang terbalik itu ditemui penduduk kampung kira-kira satu kilometer dari lokasi kejadian.

The incident happened at about 1.30pm, which happened at the Kampung Bantal Health Clinic Jetty, three staff members almost drowned when their boat overturned, and the Sungai Tembeling current carried them.

The boat carrying the assistant medical officer, general clinic worker, and a boatman is believed to have had an engine problem and overturned before getting stuck in a tree on the river bank, which caused all the MOH staff to drift, as reported by the MOH.

However, the assistant medical officer and boatman managed to cling to a tree branch near the scene while the general worker clung to the boat and was carried by a current of 300 meters before he managed to save himself by clinging to a tree branch nearby.

The villagers used boats to rescue all the victims who were found about one kilometre from the scene.
