Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today (3 December) that the proposal to increase the Social Welfare Department (JKM) assistance rate to RM1,000 a month from the current RM200 to RM300, will be implemented immediately.

Astro Awani reported that according to the PM, as a caring government, he would ensure that the group have equal rights and opportunities to live life like other members of the society.

The group benefitting from this will also include the OKU community and the proposal will be implemented immediately. In conjunction with World OKU Day, the Prime Minister added that the monthly allowance for unemployed OKU Malaysians will increase from RM250 to RM300. For those who are employed, on the other hand, their allowance will be increased from RM400 to RM450.

“I myself have several times come down to meet this group as during my visit to the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Desa Rejang in Setapak and PPR Taman Sri Keramat, Putatan, Sabah before.”

Last August, Muhyiddin reportedly proposed an increase in the monthly assistance and efforts to help the group, including B40, as they were the aspirations of the Perikatan Nasional government under his leadership.
