Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), the youth wing of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) faced the ire of Malaysians online recently for a trip to Hat Yai, Thailand instead of supporting the local tourism industry.

Furthermore, AMK was also slammed by PKR and Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters for being overzealous about the trip to Thailand instead of focusing on addressing several pressing issues in the country.

Why not address hot national issues or support local tourism instead?

As shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @ZacZakirin13,  AMK leaders were seemingly so excited about the Hat Yai trip that they even made a poster with their faces on it.

Attaching the poster in the post, @ZacZakirin13 lamented that PKR will falter in the future if this is the party’s youth wing leadership.

He then mocked AMK for going on a trip to Hat Yai instead of addressing pressing issues such as the challenge on Kelantan Sharia enactments, the faltering Ringgit, the Journalists’ Code of Ethics and the p-hailing pay readjustment.

@ZacZakirin13 asserted,

“There’s even a poster wey! I’m perplexed, why did they choose Hat Yai? Not Penang, Langkawi, Cameron Highland? Don’t want to support local?”

Malaysians, especially government supporters weren’t impressed

The X post has since caught a lot of traction, garnering over 2,400 likes and 2,000 reposts as of the time of writing. Meanwhile, in the replies, many Malaysians, especially PH and PKR supporters also called out AMK for such a move.

One commenter said that he previously thought AMK had no budget to make posters, hence why they didn’t address pressing issues to show their opinion on the matter. However, this is proven to be wrong as the PKR youth wing seemingly went out of its way to create a well-designed poster for the Hat Yai trip.

Besides that, one commenter sarcastically said that AMK is going to Thailand so that they can research how the Thai Baht could perform admirably compared to the Malaysian Ringgit.

AMK leaders have been reprimanded by their chief

AMK chief and Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Adam Ali has since responded to the viral X post, saying that he has reprimanded the AMK leadership for the insensitive move.

Adam Adli, whose face was also on the poster, asserted that during an AMK retreat in Kuala Lumpur in January, he had given the mandate and freedom to AMK at the state levels to organise any internal programmes to strengthen the bond of members.

He added that the mandate was given in preparation for an intensive training series at all states organised by AMK central through the Akademi Keadilan Rakyat (AKAR).

As for the Hat Yai trip, Adam Adli asserted,

“I appreciate the efforts of my fellow leaders but sometimes they’re insensitive and missed the mark. Unfortunately, such a lesson comes from an incident such as this.

“I have reprimanded them and as a leader, I take full responsibility to correct the situation.”
