A Malaysian man was apprehended by members of the public on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) near a petrol station in Seberang Jaya after driving his pickup truck recklessly and dangerously.
During the incident, the Mitsubishi Triton driver collided with several vehicles along the route before being detained by members of the public and handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The driver was placed under a four-day remand
Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said police rushed to the scene after receiving a report at 10:05 AM about a road accident involving the vehicle.
A urine screening test found that the suspect tested positive for drugs, while further checks revealed that he has 17 prior criminal records, 15 of which are related to drug offences.

In a recent development, earlier today (9 June), MalaysiaGazette reported that Bukit Mertajam Magistrate Savinder Singh Jugindar Singh granted a four-day remand order against the 29-year-old suspect.
“Initial investigations found that the driver is believed to have driven the vehicle recklessly and dangerously from Sungai Dua towards Penang, colliding with several vehicles along the route.
“The suspect was later detained by members of the public before being handed over to the police. A further inspection of his sling bag uncovered a transparent plastic packet containing 0.75g of methamphetamine and 2.38g of ketamine,” the statement said.

Suspect caught driving under the influence
Additionally, Nik Aminuddin said police are also investigating the crashes caused by the suspect under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs and causing an accident.
He added that police are currently tracking down all victims and independent witnesses who were at the scene to assist with the investigation.
Nik Aminuddin also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Traffic Investigating Officer at 011-14572390.
