It’s no secret that Malaysians love branded clothing, especially when it’s for an OOTD for the ‘gram. But, eventually, we’ve got to ask ourselves if it is all worth it? And no, we don’t mean monetarily.

Lizards and snakes are losing their lives in the most cruel, gruesome way, and it’s apparently all to provide skins to clothing brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior and more.

In a recent exposé by PETA, they revealed how slaughterhouses in Indonesia are killing lizards and snakes in an effort to supply these high-end clothing brands with skins to make their products. And let us tell you, it’s not pretty.

Some of these images are so horrifying that we’ve decided to refrain from sharing most of them here, which should make anyone question, are these grisly killings really worth a jacket or a purse?

Not only are these animals skinned alive, but many of them experience extreme torture beforehand.

Water monitor lizards

“The lizards’ legs are tied, they they’re callously thrown around and beheaded without stunning – causing them a prolonged, agonising death.”

“This kind of cruelty goes into every one of Gucci’s lizard leather purses, belts, wallets and other fashion accessories”, Peta shared.

The footage of the scene even showed some lizards’ heads still moving after being cut off.

Pythons

Two slaughterhouses in Indonesia were found to be providing snakeskin to LVMH, the company that owns Louis Vuitton, Dior and many other fashion brands.

Workers would hit the snakes in the head, suspend them in the air, pump them full of water and cut off their skin, all while the snakes are still conscious.

PETA is urging the above brands to stop selling exotic animal skin products

They’re also appealing to the public to refrain from purchasing items made with these skins.

“Rather than exploring lush rainforests, the lizards used by Gucci are taken out of their natural habitat, abused and violently killed for cold-blooded vanity.”

“No bag, belt, or wallet is worth so much pain and suffering. Please don’t buy accessories made out of exotic skins: Choose humane, eco-friendly, vegan options instead“, they added.

You can check out the slaughterhouses for the lizards and pythons here, but please do brace yourselves.

Are you someone who purchases exotic animal skin clothing and accessories? Please do share why in the comment sections.
