A recent video showing a man allegedly committing a lewd act involving a cat has sparked outrage among Malaysians.
Following the incident, the Malaysian Stray Animal Association (SAFM) called for an immediate and thorough investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) also involved.

Several cats have been removed from the suspect’s home
Following the suspect’s arrest at 10:00 AM yesterday (October 19), police officers and animal welfare activists removed several cats from his family home last night to ensure their safety.
Pasir Puteh District Police Chief Superintendent Saari Yaacob said the cat believed to have been involved in the incident has also been handed over to the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) for further examination.
He added that police are still looking into claims that the suspect has mental health issues, but have yet to receive confirmation from a doctor or obtain his medical records.
“At the moment, we have yet to receive confirmation from a doctor or obtain his medical records. To protect the cats from further disturbance, we have taken steps to move them to an animal care centre,” he said, as quoted by Berita Harian.

The cat involved in the incident may be adopted pending police approval
Meanwhile, animal welfare activist Nur Izyan Syahida Rosli said the Kelantan Pewaris Animal Lovers Club had taken two cats from the suspect’s home to be cared for.
The group is also willing to adopt the cat allegedly subjected to sexual abuse by the suspect, pending police approval after the investigation is completed.
“We are prepared to take in the cat if the police allow us to do so after the investigation is completed,” she said.
Separately, Saari urged the public not to share the video involving the man and the cat. He reminded the public that sharing such content could lead to legal action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or a prison sentence of up to two years.
