A video allegedly showing a man committing a lewd act involving a cat has recently gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among netizens.

In response, the Malaysian Stray Animal Association (SAFM) has called on the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident.

Malaysian Stray Animal Association urges authorities to identify suspect

In a statement shared on Facebook, SAFM urged the public to come forward with any information, original footage, or other relevant evidence that could help identify the individual allegedly involved.

The association also stressed that if the allegations are proven true, the act would constitute a serious form of animal abuse and warrant appropriate legal action, as reported by Berita Harian.

“SAFM urges the authorities to investigate whether Section 377 of the Penal Code and Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772) may apply to this case. The circulation of the footage on social media should also be examined under the relevant communications and multimedia laws.

“SAFM also urges the authorities to identify the individual involved, verify the authenticity of the video, determine where the alleged incident took place, and gather all relevant digital evidence,” it said.

“Appropriate legal action should be taken”

SAFM also stressed that finding the cat should be a top priority, so its condition can be assessed and its safety ensured.

The association added that proper enforcement is important to protect animal welfare and ensure the public can trust that animals are protected under Malaysian law. It also urged the authorities to take appropriate legal action if there is sufficient evidence that an offence has been committed.

“If there is sufficient evidence to establish that an offence has been committed, appropriate legal action should be taken.”
