PAS Youth Chief and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Mas, Ustaz Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has invited UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs that still have “heart and principles” to not “take shelter” under the federal government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and oppose the government’s motions in Parliament. Moreover, he also said that Perikatan Nasional (PN) can offer their logo to contest in by-elections should they be sacked as MP under the Anti-Hopping Law.

Taking to his Facebook page, Ahmad Fadhli, who is also PN Youth Chief claims that with the rakyat’s mood as it was in Padang Serai – the delayed GE15 contest in which PN won – it is not impossible for the MPs to win again but under PN’s banner if a by-election took place. The Pasir Mas MP asserted,

“To all MPs under UMNO/BN that still have the heart and principles to not take shelter under the PH-led government, you can still oppose the government’s motions in Parliament. The worst that could happen is for you to lose your seat.”

“You can still contest if a by-election is called. Of course, if they are negotiations, PN can offer our logo, and with the current mood of the rakyat as it was in Padang Serai, it won’t be impossible for you to be re-elected,”

The PN Youth Chief then ended the post by saying that if the BN MPs still want to support the PH/BN fusion government, then it is up to them. The first session of the 15th Parliament is set to start on Monday (19 December 2022), with one of the first motions to be tabled being the vote of confidence for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In relation to that, as reported by The Star, leaders of all the political parties and coalitions that are part of the Malaysia Unity Government under Anwar Ibrahim signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will guarantee political stability. According to the MoU, all the signatories must support the Prime Minister in all matters of confidence and supply as well as those that could have a bearing on the legitimacy of his administration, including the upcoming vote of confidence.

Those that do not abide by the MoU will be considered as having resigned from their respective parties as per the Anti-Hopping Law and may pave way for a by-election.
