When SOPs for the Movement Control Order (MCO) were announced, many people were astonished as to why eateries needed to close at 8pm.

Nevertheless, the day of implementation came and there were some people who had to scour their cabinets for food that night.

Taking to Twitter, Muar MP Syed Saddiq has openly questioned the need to close restaurants at 8pm.

In the tweet, he says:

“If there is no dine-in, we understand but let the people have the option to takeaway at least until 10pm.”

“There are some people whose work ends at 7+pm and they wouldn’t be able to make it in time.”

He also stated that this rule has directly impacted consumers, restaurant operators and food delivery people.

However, the worst thing is that most eateries will need to be closed BY 8pm which means that their cut off time is at 7.30pm. Even though many of us are working from home, we understand all too well that work can be demanding and we’ll lose sight of time. By the time we reach for our phone, it is already the cut-off time.

Among other things, there may also be frontline workers who work 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm) but will not be able to buy food after a full day of work.

In another tweet, he has also called out the seemingly double standards where people are unable to get food after 8pm but it is fine for SPM and STPM takers to go to school even when they are in red zone areas.
