Our beloved nation is having it’s 63rd Independence Day in another 10 days. However, we can’t seem to have a proper celebration because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Communications and Multimedia has called on Malaysians to liven up the atmosphere with patriotic spirit through social media. Even though there would be no national parade in relation to Merdeka Day, Malaysians can always express their love for the nation by posting pictures and videos across social media platforms.

According to BERNAMA, Datuk Saifuddin added that Malaysians can still hype up the celebration without the happening of usual events.

So, it’s time to showcase your creativity!

2020’s National Day is celebrated alongside with the golden anniversary of Rukun Negara as launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on 9 July.

The live broadcast of National Day celebration will be at Dataran Pahlawan, Putrajaya on 31 August. Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will grace the celebration and receive the salute from members of security forces, before giving the royal address.

“Normally, there is no royal address on National Day, but, because 50 years ago, we have the Yang di-Pertuan Agong declared Rukun Negara on Aug 31, so in conjunction with the 50th-anniversary celebration, (of Rukun Tetangga), we want to have a royal address,” Datuk Saifuddin said.

When talking about the chosen theme for National Day and Malaysia Day which is ‘Malaysia Prihatin’ (Malaysia Cares), the minister said that it reflects the nation as a united piece because people from different paths come together in facing the new norm.

“To be patriotic and caring, there is no need to do big things. Just give a face mask to a friend, remind each other about physical distancing, pick up rubbish by the roadside are actions that show we care. There is no need to be a minister to be patriotic,” he added.

Television stations too are asked to play a role in bringing up the lively atmosphere of Merdeka celebration.
