Japan’s famous and irresistible fluffy omelette has landed on our shores. You know, those viral videos showing how the egg is laid on top of the rice, and beautifully cut open to reveal a near perfect runny omelette?!

Well, Malaysians no longer have to dream about it as they can finally get a taste of this piece of heaven, thanks to Omulab!

Omulab is a new specialty cafe in Seksyen 17, PJ like no other! Previously known as the Slurp Cafe, the newly-relocated establishment serves up mouthwatering plates of fusion rice dishes topped with creamy, lava-styled Japanese omelettes.

With an array of choices to choose from, you can either opt for the usual fuwa (or fluffy in Japanese) omurice or double omurice, wafu fried rice with blue cheese sauce, squid ink fried rice with white sauce, ebiko fried rice with Mentaiko sauce, kimchi fried rice with tomato sauce, and the mixed herb rice with Japanese curry sauce.

Aside from that traditional egg with rice dishes, there are numerous other fun options too: Deep-fried mantou buns stuffed with smoked duck and sliced omelette, sushi-style rolls made of wrapped omelette with crabsticks and bonito flakes, egg custard pudding, and even a Vietnamese-influenced egg coffee, prepared with pasteurised eggs.

You may find the price range similar or a little higher than your average cafe, but there’s a perfectly good reason why! According to the owner of Omulab, the ingredients are imported and require various safety tests to be run in labs to ensure its quality and taste.

For instance, the cheese they use in their omelettes originates from France. Omulab then sends the cheese to labs in Johor to run safety tests for a green light to use as an ingredient in their Omurice.

Hence, many may think it’s just omelette with rice; however, a lot of work has been put into making the dish a success! The fluffiness needs to be perfect, not to mention, the shape of the omelette, to ensure a perfect opening when sliced open.

Here’s their deets if you’re already salivating!
