On September 18, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok filed a bankruptcy notice against Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, after he failed to pay her damages amounting to RM351,479.45 as ordered by the High Court following her victory in a defamation suit against the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
Following this, Gabungan Solidariti Anak Selangor (GSAS) launched the Solidarity Fund to Save Jamal on September 24, and they managed to collect more than RM200,000 in less than 30 minutes.
“The response we received today was very encouraging, from the residents around PO30 Sungai Besar. So far, we gave been able to collect approximately RM200,000 in cash and three checks worth RM20,000,” said GSAS chairman Faizal Zakaria, shared by Malaysia Gazette.
But, many are unhappy about this and took to social media to point out that the money should be spent helping underprivileged community members. Some also suggested that, if Jamal really needs financial aid, he should seek help from his son; who lives a luxurious, jet-setting lifestyle.
“Collecting money for people who slander others… why? It’s better to collect a lot of money for the people in that area who are struggling due to the increasing costs of daily necessities. Instead of saving someone like him, it’s better to help the people whose living costs are getting tighter. Isn’t it possible?”
“There are so many poor and homeless people in Malaysia, but there are rich people who are proud and arrogant and can afford to live life more than others but because of their mouth, they were sued. Imagine, if the RM200 thousand is given to the right person, how wonderful it would be.”
“Ask his son to sell off his Mustang, it’ll confirm be enough.”
“Nonsense fund, he can go collect money from his son. His son uses a Mustang, takes first class flights.”
“Like crap, his son lives so luxuriously. He’s only 20-something.”
It’s truly saddening to know that there are many others out there who are severely in need of such money to feed the hungry tummies of their loved ones, yet it is being donated to a politician who lost a court case.
We genuinely hope that this same energy and efforts will be channeled towards helping the underprivileged.
