Let’s be real, we’ve all considered buying medical certificates (MCs) to get an off-day from work.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) took to Twitter to share a public service announcement (PSA) in the form of a video to urge people to avoid selling/buying fake MCs by categorising it as a crime of bribery.
But that’s not what the people are focusing on!
SPRM wrote, “Can MCs be corrupt? Let’s see how this can happen.”
The video PSA depicts a man in a dimly-lit doctor’s office, where the doctor behaved more like a crime lord than a, well, doctor.
“Based on the report, I can see that you’re not sick. But don’t worry, I will give you painkillers“, the doctor told the man.
“Doctor, can I have an MC?” the man asked as ominous music plays in the background.
“If you want (an MC), there are ways“, the doctor responded. The man then slips an envelope across the table to the doctor, “I think, this can help you, doctor, to help me get (an MC)“.
The video ends as the doctor takes the envelope while asking the man how many days of MC he would like.
Netizens think the video is too weird!
While the PSA was quite entertaining (it was like watching a snippet from some crime show), netizens decided that the video was just a little too weird to take seriously as it was a very unrealistic depiction of how fake MCs are obtained.
“Hahahaha based on the record you are not sick. But I will give you painkillers. Hahahaha, this isn’t bribery, this is wrong reason for prescription.”
“When you see a doctor and if you just say you have diarrhea, you can get an MC. When has there ever been people who give money in an envelope? This is more like purchasing tenders by giving (money) in envelopes.”
“As a regular visitor to health clinics, this is the first time I’m seeing a clinic with dark lighting. With the actions of a man and 2 women in a dark room, what is the message the video director is actually trying to deliver?”
People also believe that SPRM should clean up their own act before focusing on others.
“Horrible behaviour, you want to advise and teach the working class but when you have a boss who eats bribes, you keep quiet.”
While the PSA was a really terrible one, SPRM clearly has a future in producing TV dramas.
You can watch the odd PSA here.
