Recently, a posting on the Health Ministry’s official Telegram channel, “Sihat Milikku” garnered attention when it was revealed that many netizens were asking whether funerals and weddings could be held during the Restricted Movement Control Order period (18th March till 31st March).

“The answer is, [it is] NOT allowed…this is because they are social gatherings,” said the Ministry, as reported by the Star.

With this, they cited Section 11(4) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, and Section 24(2) of the same Act. Attending these gatherings would be “a criminal offence from 18th March to 31st March,” said the statement.

Anybody who defies the government’s Restricted Movement Control Order face the risks of being sentenced to a two year prison sentence, a fine, or a combination of both these consequences when they are convicted.

Be careful guys, stay safe and follow the law!
