M’sian Woman in Her 80s Drives Against Traffic on PJ Highway While Trying to Find Exit, Gets Arrested

A video of a vehicle driving against the flow of traffic at KM10.8 of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) in Petaling Jaya has gone viral online.

The incident, which took place on Monday (18 May), involved a local woman in her 80s. Investigations revealed that she had mistakenly driven into oncoming traffic after getting lost while heading home.

Police confirm driver was searching for an exit

According to a statement by the Petaling Jaya District Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver had inadvertently driven against traffic while attempting to find an exit from the highway.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Shamsuddin bin Mamat, confirmed that, fortunately, no accidents occurred as a result of the incident.

The driver has since been detained, and investigations are being carried out under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

PDRM issues stern warning to road users

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has reminded all road users to strictly comply with traffic laws to ensure public safety and prevent accidents. Authorities emphasised that those found violating traffic regulations will face strict action, with no compromises given.

“Witnesses who saw or were present at the scene are urged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the traffic investigating officer, Inspector Jayseelan a/l Suppaya, at 018-2582531 or the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters at 03-79662222 to assist in the investigation,” the statement read.
