Everyone has the right to spend their money the way they desire. Recently, the “RM100,000 giveaway” at a nightclub in Subang made headlines and the incident has received criticisms as Malaysians expressed their thought on how the money could’ve been handled better.

The “generous” man who gave away the money broke his silence on the matter in an interview with China Press. Tay Wee Shen, 30, admitted that he was indeed at the scene that night but the reason for him to “shoot” the money out through his Supreme money gun was NOT to flaunt his wealth.

“It’s all marketing… and attention”

Tay revealed that everything was simply propaganda that he improvised.

As the nightclub was filled with people from all walks of life, he decided to use the RM100,000 to promote his business and get the attention of the people at the scene.

“American YouTuber, Mr Beast is the main inspiration for me to do so,” he said.

Tay also apologised for his stunt following the backlash that he received on social media.

“I saw the comments. I did reflect on myself and knew it was my mistake, which I regretted,” he told China Press.

Tay, an entrepreneur who specialises in cryptocurrency and luxury watches said that he visited the club with a number of internet celebrities, including local model Gatita Yan.

It was not a giveaway

The accounting & finance grad from the University of Melbourne also said that the stunt was conducted in a seated area separated by glass where the crowds watched from the outside.

The money which he happily sprayed onto the air with his Supreme money gun was later collected by his internet celebrity friends and returned to him.

In the meantime, he also said that he was taught about the importance of financial planning since he was young and assured the people that he is aware of its significance.

‘It was simply a stunt to promote my business & not to flaunt my wealth,” he said once again.

Have you ever expected that everything was simply a gimmick prior to his explanation?
