A frustrated taxi driver has gone viral after revealing how university students frequently scam him out of fares by pretending to pay via QR code—only to never complete the transaction.

In a video interview, a woman shared her firsthand experience after speaking with the driver:

In the video she shared that she had taken a taxi after she was too lazy to book a ride.

I felt so sorry for the uncle when he told me he’s often scammed by university students who act like they’re paying via QR code but never actually do.”

“Honestly, he said he wouldn’t mind if the students were upfront about not having money. What hurt him more was the dishonesty. He also mentioned that he doesn’t earn much these days, especially with so many ride-hailing services around,” she shared.

“He was really disappointed that people in universities—who should know better—had the audacity to cheat him. I really pity him. He’s elderly and struggling to make a living.”

In the comments section, one netizen shared a similar story involving a friend:

“I had a friend who said he’d pay for the ride, but later admitted he didn’t. When I found out he cheated the driver, I scolded him and tried to track the driver down.

The user added, “Thankfully, we found him. I paid him double the fare. I told my friend off—if he wants to pull something like that, do it on his own, not at the expense of others. If you’re going to cheat, cheat alone.”
