What defines success in life? For many, it’s landing a job in their field of study, but for others, it’s not necessarily the same.
In a recent story that has been gaining attention from netizens online, property agent Rubi Hasman shares her thoughts on Facebook after being criticised for not following her career path.
In the post, Rubi shared how she was criticised by a man who made comments about her, saying,
“No matter how high her education is, she’d still end up in the kitchen.”
She revealed that she had encountered the person with a shallow mindset, who even criticised her and her husband.
“At the end of the day, you’d still end up in the kitchen”
Rubi then goes on to share how, upon learning that she didn’t pursue a job in her field of study, the man commented, saying,
“It’s better if you never continued with your studies then. What a waste of money. In the end, you end up taking care of your kids at home.”
She also mentioned that she had a lot to say about the man’s comments on her choices. However, she chose to stay silent.
“I decided to stay silent mainly because I just can’t be bothered to engage with people who have such narrow-minded views like him.”
“What would his response be if he found out I’m now a successful property agent?”
Rubi expressed her belief that studying in universities isn’t just about getting a job, along the way, we also learn new things about life.
She also mentioned how pursuing studies can contribute to personal development and shape individuals to become who they are today, fostering a more positive mindset.
“The best part about studying is how it educates ourselves and future generations.”
Rubi continued to suggest that going further in your studies isn’t just about making more money. She shared how educated individuals can adapt and succeed in various environments.
“If you put someone educated and someone not educated anywhere in the world, they’d have different ways of thinking. As a woman, even if you have a degree but end up in the kitchen, you’re still considered successful in life.”

Not pursuing a job in your field of study doesn’t always have to be a negative thing. It simply means that there are more opportunities ahead and that a plan is already in motion; you just have to reach it.
