Ramadhan and the scorching hot weather is NOT THE BEST combination, especially for those who are fasting.

With “no access” to food and drinks for over 14 hours a day, it’s not an easy task to go about the day. If adults find it hard at times to soldier through the day, can you imagine how children feel in the unpleasant weather, with layers of clothes on?

In a couple of Facebook posts by The Selangor State Religious Office (JAIS), many concerned Malaysian parents are flocking the comment sections of the organisation’s social media but not for something relevant to the post.

“Are you waiting for my kid to get heatstroke?”

The government has reminded all institutions to allow students to wear proper sports attire if necessary during this hot season. Students in religious schools are required to wear Songkok, a shirt, pants, and sometimes, Sampin.

Parents immediately reminded JAIS to allow leniency in the attire before anything unwanted happens.

“I request JAIS to allow students to go to school in proper sports attire. The weather is just too hot and please don’t have assembly on the field. Pity the children.”

“Are you even reading the comments, admin? Please alert the Director about this.”

“Please answer us immediately! What are you waiting for when you have social media? What’s the use of your social media page? We’re not even asking for air-conditioners!”

“Please set some rules immediately about the change of attire! Are you waiting for a death caused by heatstroke?”

“Please be more drastic and wake up! Please be alert of the current situation. Will you stand under the sun in your Baju Melayu and Songkok? The kids are flocking the school bus, they can faint from that.”

“My kid, who is just Standard 1 cried yesterday because he was too tired and felt hot. Please, give some leniency to the attire. Please have some empathy when they can’t even drink this month.”

To parents who are sending their kids to religious schools, what do you think of this matter?
