A Nasi Lemak restaurant recently went viral after charging its customers RM1 per head for air con usage. This time, an e-hailing driver is being criticised for charging customers a ridiculous amount for air con usage in his backseat.

In a viral post circulating on X(formerly Twitter) shared by MALAYSIAVIRALLL, the passenger of an e-hailing ride shared a photo from the backseat, revealing the additional charges that passengers are expected to pay if they need to use the air con.

Passengers need to pay AT LEAST RM20 if they want air con in the backseat

If you want a cooler experience with a higher fan speed, you’ll have to pay even more.

RM20 is merely for the 1st fan speed. For the 2nd and 3rd fan speeds, the passenger is expected to pay RM25 and RM30, respectively. Unless you are seated in the front passenger seat next to the driver and sharing the air con, you would have to pay if you’re seated at the back and want to use the air con.

“Basic air-con is provided in front,” the driver remarked on the notice placed behind his chair.

2 small fans are also installed for the front passenger’s comfort.

Social media users weigh in

Social media users also thought that it was too much for the e-hailing driver to impose such charges for air con.

“It would’ve been acceptable if it was RM1 or RM2. But this is RM20.”

“I would’ve just asked the driver to shut off the air con and roll the windows up.”

“This sounds like the same kind of person who would charge RM600 per head for 6 beds in a studio unit.”

“I’ve experienced a similar thing in Penang, but his car was a huge mess.”

“This is capitalism at its peak. Does he go for air con maintenance every month?”

What do you think of the extra charges?
