Preferring intimate family dinners over larger, boisterous parties to celebrate your birthday is perfectly normal. It’s not about hating on big or grand celebrations, but there’s a unique charm to small gatherings that just hits the spot.

In a recent video shared by @tyrrerr, he’s seen enjoying an intimate celebration with friends at a mamak eatery at 3am in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

“I also felt touched and grateful”

In the video, the birthday boy surprised by his friends presenting him with a lit birthday cake, while they sang “Happy Birthday” to him. What made the night even more memorable was the entire mamak place joining in the celebration, creating an unforgettable moment.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Tyler revealed that the moment was a mix of emotions for him because it was unexpected, initially making him feel shy and embarrassed.

Malaysians are the friendliest people on earth!

Tyler went on to share that initially, he had expected to celebrate with the cake at a restaurant earlier in the evening, but to his surprise, his friends had planned to do it at a mamak instead.

Upon receiving the cake, he expressed his concern that his friends’ singing might cause a scene. He asked his friends to tone it down a bit, as there were other diners at the mamak at that time.

In the video caption, he mentions,

“This is why they say Malaysians are so friendly!”

The singing lasted for a good 2 minutes

Tyler was then surprised when random strangers dining at the mamak joined in, getting hyped up and starting a chain of singing throughout the entire place.

“The singing started with my friends, then spread to the table next to us, then to another table farther away, and eventually, the whole mamak was singing. It even circled back to the table next to us for a second round!”

He finds the situation so heartwarming and described it as possibly one of the best birthday celebrations he’s ever experienced in his life so far.

“The fiasco ended with us treating a gentleman from the shop who requested it, as well as the guy at the next table, to a slice of cake.”

“This is Malaysia, where it’s amazing how we all live together in unity.”

“I always prefer celebrating my birthday at a mamak instead of a restaurant in the mall because they usually don’t play the birthday song for you there. At a mamak, everyone sings loudly and it’s a laid-back atmosphere. Anyway, happy birthday to you!”
