Yesterday, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin, announced that the second round of opt-in AstraZeneca vaccines for individuals above 18 years old in five states could register on JKJAV’s website starting 12pm on 26 May.

Many Malaysians held their breath and stood by their laptops, phones and other devices in eager anticipation of signing up for the vaccine. However, in just a little over an hour of the registration being opened, JKJAV took to Twitter to inform the public that all registrations were closed at 1.27pm.

“Appointment booking for the second round of the AstraZeneca Voluntary Vaccine Initiative Invitation is now closed. Those who are eligible will receive an appointment soon. Thank you for your interest in helping the nation achieve herd immunity.”

The registration, which was supposed to open at 12pm was delayed to 12.15pm as the booking page was still being updated. Many netizens expressed their frustrations as they had to refresh their booking pages multiple times before they could click on the slots for their selected states and successfully register for their vaccinations.

At 12.56pm, JKJAV announced that more than 300,000 bookings were made for the AstraZeneca vaccine. They acknowledged that many users had difficulty accessing the page but asked them to try again soon.
