Following a barrage of comments and posts from young Malaysians debunking the minister’s claim, the Deputy Minister of Communications, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin issued an apology yesterday (3 September) for an ‘inaccurate’ statement he made in the Dewan Negara.

Previously, the minister claimed that Veveonah is just a Youtuber who didn’t sit for any examinations when the video was recorded. This sparked outrage among netizens, some of whom were also Veveonah’s peers.

Zahidi officially addressed the issue and made an apology in a post on his official Facebook account. In the statement, he said that;

“I want to correct what I said about Veveonah, that she had not actually sat for the exams and that she had shared a video showing her on the tree just to garner views for her YouTube channel.

“I would like to apologise to Veveonah Mosibin because I had received inaccurate information,”

He also mentioned that he will revise his statement in response to a question that was asked, during when Dewan Negara convenes again next Monday.
