Malaysia has had the whole ‘can travel visa free’ thing with North Korea since 2009. That makes us the first nation to have visa-free travel to the DPRK ever!

But we aren’t alone, Singapore also has this!

But what does this mean for us regular folk? Well it means that you can visit North Korea without having to apply for a permit from them. And VISA-free stay lasts up to 30 days! Dang, pretty special huh?

In fact, there are very few countries Malaysians and Singaporeans have to apply VISA for as our passports are one of the most powerful in the world!

Now although this is good news, depending on who you ask, you can’t just book a flight and show up in Pyongyang. Like everyone else, we’ll still have to book a tour with an “approved” tour agency.

The supreme leader doesn’t want anyone to simply wander around.

If you really want to, you’ll have to go to China, register for a tour and take a plane to North Korea from there. We covered a story on a guy who went on one of those tours and illegally took photos here!

But our VISA-less entry to the supreme land is not the only unique thing to note on. Malaysia is one of only 24 countries what have an embassy in Pyongyang. So if something shitty were to happen in North Korea, there’s at least someone you can actually contact.

These embassy typically handle visa extensions, passport issues and all other nonsense so you’re covered if something happens over there.
