With the world of technology looking to develop even further, our futures will most likely be filled with digital assets and the metaverse as even more parts of our daily lives shift online.

Recently, in a fround-breaking initiative by Uniquepro Meta Holdings, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was made the first national leader to mark his legacy in the metaverse.

In an event on July 26, 2022, Mahathir was bestowed the honour which was part of  a ground-breaking move by enterprising start-up, Uniquepro Meta Holdings to conceptualise and debut the company’s first Metaverse Virtual Gallery which will feature Mahathir’s Legacy.

This trailblazing development was commemorated in a soft launch ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, attended by Mahathir himself and his consort, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah.

“Here today, we have the opportunity to witness another technological development brought about by Metaverse, which is linking the digital world that exists in parallel with the real world and allows real-time interactions in the VR (Virtual Reality) based environment,” said Mahathir in his speech.

“Given all these new achievements and exploration by our youths, I am hopeful and encouraged that the future of our nation is in good and capable hands.”

The initiation of the Metaverse Virtual Gallery is aimed at establishing and realising a platform where art and technology are seamlessly intertwined to empower an up-and-coming generation of artists to unleash their true potential using the latest in cutting-edge technology.

It will also serve as an instantly-accessible intercultural communications platform that transcends barriers and limitations including geographical location, time and language.

The implementation of the Metaverse Virtual Gallery will be accessible to people across the globe in a new era of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology, showcasing and preserving memorable and historical moments in the life and times of Mahathir and Siti Hasmah, and with its upcoming icons of some other celebrities and Negarawan.

The gallery will also serve as an educational platform which will allow existing and future generations of Malaysians to experience pivotal and important historical moments in their country’s history as they never did before.

It will be updated in various stages, using a collection of fresh and past images of Mahathir and Siti, including limited-edition artwork and designs by renowned local artists. The initiative will also see the implementation of a design and artwork competition in honour of “Iconic & Inspiring Individuals in Malaysia”.

“While the metaverse is a relatively new concept, it has nonetheless led to the creation of a diverse range of technological advancements which is shaping the future in real-time,” said Martin Chew, Project Chairman of Uniquepro Meta Holdings.

He explained that based on market projections, the global metaverse development value is seeing an undisputed increase and is expected to reach US$1 trillion (RM4.4 trillion) by 2030.

“This led to the development of UNIQ META World Gallery & NFT this year, and its maiden project in the form of ‘Legacy for Tun Dr. Mahathir’ Metaverse Virtual Gallery. What better way is there to initiate our engagement in the metaverse than by honouring the father of Malaysia’s modernisation himself,” added Chew.

“Much like the metaverse, his legacy has left an indelible positive mark in the development of our beloved country, and we wanted to take this opportunity to honour him, and inspire a new generation of artists through the metaverse.”
