The cast members of a movie or a TV show are crucial in deciding its potential viewers, and many of us are drawn into the movie not only for the plot but also for the actors and actresses who will grace the screen.

It’s not uncommon for TikTokers and influencers to make an appearance or two in a movie production nowadays, and some even make a full-time career out of it. However, local actor Sharnaaz Ahmad is not a fan of this scene, and he thinks that internet celebrities should stay in their lanes.

Sharnaaz has a few reasons for that, and it’s not just about the talent to act.

“It kills the chemistry”

Sharnaaz said that he wouldn’t mind if given the opportunity to act with a talented influencer, but not when the other party can’t act and consequently, delays the production.

“I’ve worked with someone who couldn’t act in front of the camera. It’s so troublesome. I don’t mean he’s not good, he’s just not that good yet.”

During the media conference of The Masked Singer Malaysia 3 recently, Sharnaaz also highlighted the chemistry between actors and putting a seasoned, experienced actor with a newbie influencer together could spell disaster.

“The chemistry won’t be there. The experienced actor will leave the newbie far behind,” he added.

Of course, the casting call is entirely up to the production team itself and not the actors, but Sharnaaz reminded the responsible team to pair a newbie with an actor who can lead the young blood to be better on the screen if they insist on casting someone entirely new to the field.

Do newbies tarnish the image of the seniors?

In the meantime, Sharnaaz also said that inexperienced actors may somehow tarnish the image of senior actors. He revealed that he has personally seen how a TV station hired a newbie simply because he is an influencer who has found fame online, which Sharnaaz dubbed “not right”.

He reminded TV stations in Malaysia to be wiser in making their choices and not to just think about money. If you’re an influencer or a TikToker who has thought about appearing on the big screen, Sharnaaz has a message for you.

“Influencers & TikTokers, you stay where you are and make profit there. You don’t need to go mainstream. That’s not your field.”

Do you agree with Sharnaaz’s take on internet celebrities as actors, or do you think that everyone should be given a chance to prove themselves?
