A video recently went viral after 4 friends thought it was a good idea to openly discuss drug-related topics, catching the attention of many, including the Melaka police.

According to Kosmo, Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah said that the 17 and 18-year-olds from Batu Berendam and Jasin, were taken into custody for questioning at 6 PM on August 21.

They said that it was just a joke among friends

The viral video on social media shows the 4 individuals using terms like “serbuk” (powder) and “batu” (ice) as slang for methamphetamine. One of them even displayed a transparent bag and another showed a water bottle typically associated with the drug.

“On Tuesday, a 52-second video showing a group of individuals discussing drug abuse went viral on social media. Police investigations found that the conversation took place on Monday (August 19) in a group video call online using the TikTok platform,” said Zainol.

He also revealed that during the interrogation, it was found that the conversation among the individuals was merely a continuation of a movie they had watched and just a joke among friends.

Their drug tests came back negative

Zainol mentioned that another 18-year-old woman, who lives on Jalan Dato Senu in Kuala Lumpur, was also called to give a statement at the Sentul District Police Headquarters.

According to Harian Metro, one of the women reported to police that she was being harassed online with regards to the incident. The case has been sent to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.

After the individuals were tested, their drug tests came back negative, and a record check showed that none of them had any prior criminal offences.

Following this, Zainol urged everyone to use social media responsibly and steer clear of conversations that could be seen as illegal activities.
