Lion dancers require a keen level of precision and dexterity when carrying out their performances. With different flips, kicks, and twists to be made, there are bound to be mistakes made here and there – and some are not even due to the fault of the performers themselves.

Indonesian lion dance company Barongsai Naga SMK Krian 1 Sidoarjo recently shared one of these instances to their TikTok page @barongsai.skarisa when their entertainers had an accidental mishap during a thanksgiving celebration.

During a moment in the video, the lion dance performers, who were standing in a vertical position, turn around while standing in a single spot. Moments after, the entertainer who controlled the front of the lion’s costume attempted to jump to the ground. Making the leap, the performer successfully touches the ground – just without the lion’s head portion of his costume.

Accidentally getting the lion’s head snagged on decorative fabric placed on the ceiling of the tent which was used for the celebration, the dancers were initially stunned by what had happened. Shortly after, they move to retrieve the head before continuing on with their performance.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, a representative from the lion dance company said that their only intent when sharing the video online was as a means of brief entertainment, saying that the rest of their performance carried on as usual after they removed the hitch from the piece of fabric.

“The place was a little narrow, so unless you’re used to positioning a lion’s head in a tight place, it’ll be tough. Even more, considering how we are professionals,” they stated in the comments section.

While we can all appreciate the beauty of lion dances, let’s not forget the precision it takes to execute one perfectly, especially given inadequate circumstances.
