This would be a great time to ask any relatives who love cooking to teach you heritage dishes, or you can search for YouTube tutorials. We promise that it’ll be an eye-opening experience to discover how your favourite food is made and appreciate them even deeper – some are legit mafan to do wei, so mad respect to the aunties and uncles!
4. Learn about our Malaysian history by visiting historical sites around the country

If you dozed off during Sejarah classes in high school, not to worry – there are more interesting ways to learn about our nation’s heritage! Learn about the Malay Sultanate’s heritage at the Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum, and pay your respects to the departed prisoners of war at Sandakan Memorial Park – knowing more about our history and struggles will surely give us a new perspective on our country.
5. Check out a local bazaar that sells locally-made crafts
No matter which one you go to, our neighbourhood bazaars are always filled with interesting locally-produced things to shop for! From vintage clothing and accessories to handmade soaps and perfumes, it’s a great way to support local businesses and get to know like-minded people – it’s important to have the Malaysian spirit of sticking together!

Publika Shopping Gallery also hosted a Live Art Painting initiative with award-winning local artist, Aimman Hafizal, to promote Malaysians’ national identity! Participants also got to witness the process of Aimman’s “The Honesty of Unity” artwork, which embodies hope and celebration of Malaysia’s diversity.
