Some of us are fortunate enough to not have to worry about money when we were younger. Those who are less fortunate would need to go out to the streets to earn money from a very young age.

One child in Sabah caught the attention of a netizen, Nur Fadeela, who was driving along a road in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on 1 September. The small girl was holding an umbrella (it was raining) while sleeping in a drain.

Nur Fadeela uploaded that encounter on TikTok and got more than 5 million views.

At that time, Nur Fadeela stopped at a traffic light and she saw the girl sleeping in the rain next to a bag of mangoes.

According to the text on the video, the woman had to call out for the girl several times before she stirred and came beside the car, asking if the female driver wanted any mangoes.

Fadeela asked where the child’s mother was and she said that her mother is away, picking up her younger sibling. Wanting to help, Fadeela asked for the price of a pack of mango which was RM5.

However, she usually goes cashless and only had RM2 in her purse, so she gave the cash that she had to the child.

After the initial video had gone viral, she uploaded another video where she went back to the same place to look for the child.

She asked around and a petrol station worker told her that they wouldn’t be too far from the area. After walking around, she managed to find her with a few other children who are also selling small packets of snacks.

Nur Fadeela then proceeded to buy some snacks from the kids in order to help them. She also urges netizens who want to help, to buy their snacks as they work from 8am to 6pm at the Kolombong flyover, Kota Kinabalu.

“If they finish selling their snacks early, then they can go home earlier.”

We hope that the local authorities will be able to help these children. At this young age, they are supposed to be going to school and enjoying their childhood.
