Amid a busy service, Rembayung was hit by flooding following heavy rain yesterday evening (7 February), prompting its founder, Khairul Aming, to issue a public apology.

In a viral video shared by Khairul on Threads yesterday, employees were seen swiftly cleaning the affected area while service continued. Khairul, who said he felt bad not only about the incident but also for the customers affected, apologised for the situation.

“I am truly sorry to the customers who had to change their seats due to the flood,” he said.

“The rain was heavy, and the flooding was caused by a leak. Thankfully, the leak stopped, and dinner service continued as usual.”

Khairul, however, did not specify the cause of the leak but reiterated that the issue would be addressed immediately.

Contractor breaks silence

The contractor for Rembayung later broke its silence. In a Threads post this morning (8 February), CD Builders, the contractor responsible for constructing Rembayung, explained that an overflowing gutter caused the leak. Gutter overflow occurs when rainwater is unable to drain properly, causing it to spill over the edges. This excess water can seep through walls or roofing, leading to leaks and water damage inside a building.

Upon inspection, the contractor found leaves lodged in the downpipe, a situation it said was unexpected and beyond its control.

Nevertheless, CD Builders clarified that it had taken full responsibility for managing the issue to ensure it does not recur.

The contractor also noted that since Rembayung’s opening, this was the first time the building had been affected by heavy rainfall and strong winds.
