A man was arrested for allegedly colluding with 3 robbers to break into his own home in Taman Hijau, Karak, to make a false insurance claim on Tuesday (July 18).

Based on a report by Harian Metro, the Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar shared that his party received a report from the victim, who is the wife of the alleged mastermind.

“The 42-year-old victim was approached by 3 unknown men wearing masks, who pointed machetes at the victim and ransacked her home. The suspects then fled in a white Perodua Alza vehicle which was parked in front of the house,” he said. They also managed to get away with a number of jewellery, estimated to be worth RM16,000.

During the time of the incident, the wife was alone while her mother, son and husband were away at a relative’s house.

“Acting on information received 12 hours after the report was made, police officers from the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD) and Nilai IPD arrested 2 local men aged 33 and a foreign man aged 24,”

“The raid was carried out at 9:30om in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan and succeeded in seizing the vehicle used by the suspects during the incident,” he added. The 2 local suspects had previous records involving robbery cases.

Results of an interrogation found that the victim’s husband, a 47-year-old local man, was suspected of complicity in the robbery.

“The victim’s husband is believed to be the main mastermind of this robbery, believed to be solely for insurance claims. Her husband was also arrested and all of them were remanded for 7 days to assist with the investigation according to Section 395/397 of the Penal Code (gang robbery using weapons),” he explained.

If convicted, they can be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and canings.
