#MySejahtera has been trending on Twitter because netizens think that the app is inefficient and have compared to ‘better’ functioning check-in apps.

As of yesterday (27 September 2020), Malaysia recorded a total of 150 new Covid-19 cases in Sabah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Pahang, Melaka and Sarawak. Sabah remains the state with the highest Covid-19 cases and there are seven new clusters found.

The rocketing cases in segregated places in Malaysia have become worrying for many Malaysians. The MySejahtera application that Malaysians are supposed to use every time they enter a certain premise has since received criticisms online for not alerting users on the current and/or new hotspots and clusters.

“Many are saying that MySejahtera app doesn’t function and just like another foursquare & swarm apps for check-ins. I hope MKN can message us directly about the information for contact tracing to those visited places of people who may be infected with Covid-19,” Twitter user Anep shared.

Another Twitter user, Zuliana Eusoff, also recommended MySejahtera app to include pop-out notifications to update people about the exact location of where the Covid-19 cases are, for people to be aware.

“So, you’re telling me that I can’t be alerted on MySejahtera itself if I’ve been in the same place as someone who tested positive? So I’ve been scanning a thousand times for… nothing???” Twitter user Dhanya shared.

Netizens feel like the app does no job and think that it does not serve its purpose if it was created as a contact tracing application in the first place.

Uthman, another Twitter user tweeted: “What’s the point of scanning the QR codes on MySejahtera if we’re asked to be honest and step forward ourselves if we’ve visited a place where a case has been reported?” He thinks that the app should notify users if they have been anywhere near a hotspot.

Responding to public concerns on the application, the Ministry of Health said that the app will not show a location as hotspot unless the Ministry confirms it as one after in-depth investigation.

The Ministry of Health also added that malls with staff infected with Covid-19 including NU Sentral Mall, KL Gateway Mall, Sunway Pyramid Mall and Suria KLCC are not the source or potential source of Covid-19 infection, and disinfection and cleaning activities have been carried out in the affected malls.

It is necessary to stay home and stay safe during these difficult times and remember to take care of your hygiene if you’re heading out!
