In 2018, Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), have been confirmed to be featured in Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 (PES 2020), a massive football video game rivalling FIFA, much to the delight of Malaysian football fans.

JDT is the first team from Malaysia to be featured in the highly-popular video game. While they aren’t the only Southeast Asian team on the list, it is undoubtedly a giant leap of recognition for Malaysian football.

The last time a football game featured a Malaysian team was back in 1998 when the Malaysian league was made part of FIFA 1998’s gaming roster.

Taking to Facebook, JOHOR Southern Tigers shared a video of its owner, the Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail, playing the video game and scoring against Juventus. We’re not sure how TMJ got his hands on the game, as it is only set for release in Asia on September 12, 2019.

In the 1-minute video, TMJ was seen to have scored two goals in the match, and tagging his players Safawi Rasid and Diogo Luis Santo for virtually scoring the goals.

We are sure that fans of PES2020 will be green with envy for not being able to get their hands on the video game now but fret not. It won’t be long before other Malaysians get a chance to play as their favourite team!
