The 75-year-old bodybuilding grandma

“When I first saw the bikini I just said “No way – I can’t do this”!”But she did! How it all started

About a year ago, Lim was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, which is a chronic back problem. According to Koreaboo, this condition resulted in her not being able to walk with her right foot. So as part of the treatment plan, she started weight training to fight the pain and to get stronger.

She went to the gym three times a week and one day, her trainer asked her whether her leg was still hurting or not. That’s when she realised that she was not in pain any more.

Now that that goal was achieved, her personal trainer, Park Yong In, asked if she wanted to train for bodybuilding. She replied,

“Are you crazy?! Do you know how old I am?!”

Park’s opinion is that it’s not about winning competitions or whatnot but rather, it’s about motivating her and letting her have fun.

Competition

As a contestant, she needed to wear a bikini that really shows of her body with 15cm heels- which made her really nervous and embarrassed. However, she didn’t win her first competition, but she was determined to try again. She trained harder than before and this time, she managed to win second place in the senior category (38 years old and above).

South Korean society

She said that the South Korean society has become more open-minded, and she backs this up by saying that back then, she couldn’t even wear short pants but now, she’s wearing a bikini. People back then would always be saying,

“Women can’t do this, women can’t do that.”

But now, she’s proving to men and women alike that anyone can do anything they want, and they can go as far as they can.

“Everyone has dreams. But if you give up on those dreams because of old age, life becomes too meaningless. If you challenge yourself to your dreams even after aging, I believe you will be able to have a great life in your remaining time.”

That is such an inspiring story! Now, New Year is almost here and if you’ve been slacking off on your resolutions, go now!
