A recent post has gone viral after a doctor opened up about her resignation as a Medical Officer (MO) with the Ministry of Health (KKM), with her story resonating with many Malaysians.

Taking to Threads, Dr. Sindhujah Subramaniam opened up about her final day as an MO, describing it as a time for her to “find herself again and be present for the people who matter most.”

Malaysian doctor reflects on moments she can “never get back”

Looking back on her time at the hospital, Dr. Sindhujah shared how countless on-calls meant missing her son’s appointments and important family occasions. She said the long hours and frequent on-calls “never felt fair” to her son and partner.

She also heartbreakingly recalled losing her mother while she was working as a House Officer (HO).

“Countless on-calls, missed appointments for my son, missed family occasions and too many moments I can never get back. Losing my mom during HO as well. Most of all, the long working hours and on-calls never felt fair to my partner and my son. They deserved more than the little energy I had left after giving my best to everyone at the hospital,” she wrote.

She also shared how she spent her days being patient and caring towards her patients at the hospital, only to come home and realise that the people she loved were getting “the worst version of herself.”

“Throughout my years working with KKM, I’ve always given my heart, my sweat and everything I had to serve and care for my patients. Walking away is painful, but this time, I have to choose my family.

“I don’t know what the future holds, but I know I want to find myself again and be present for the people who matter most. Many people have told me I’m a good doctor and are sad to see me leave. I believe a good doctor will always be a good doctor, wherever they go.”

“I still have so much love and respect for KKM”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Dr. Sindhujah assured netizens that the photos attached to her post, in which she was seen crying, were simply “tears of love and goodbye.”

“Some goodbyes hurt not because we regret leaving, but because we truly cared. It hurts to let go, but it hurts more to hold on. Goodbye to KKM, my hospital, my colleagues, my admin, my MAs, my PPKs, the guards, my patients and all the people who have been part of my journey. It is not easy to walk away from a place where I have spent so much of my time, energy and heart.

“So many memories, friendships and moments will always stay with me. I still have so much love and respect for KKM. I am leaving with gratitude, love and hope that things can become better for those who continue to serve.”

She also took the opportunity to pay tribute to her late mother, who she said had always inspired her to help others:

“My late mother was a teacher, but she taught far beyond the classroom. She would often give free tuition to underprivileged children and children from single-parent families. She taught me that helping people should never depend on what we can gain in return.

“Her kindness has always inspired me to serve and help others, wherever life takes me. I’m sorry, Mom, if I’ve let you down. I promise to do my best to continue serving people in the years to come.”
