It seems that these pothole stories are never going to end!

We have been reading loads of reports on citizen getting badly injured after encountering accidents due to unfixed potholes. Some have even lost their lives due to this issue. But has this issue been taken draconianly by the authorities?

In another similar incident that occurred yesterday, 11 January, a married couple almost died after their motorcycle was involved in an accident caused by a huge pothole at Jalan Bentong-Raub near Dataran Tras.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the rider, Shahrizal Suhaimi, 38, fractured his left leg while his wife, Norashikin Hamzah, 34,  had to receive four stitches on her left elbow.

Shahrizal explained that he and his wife were riding their Yamaha LC motorcycle together as they were on their way to work from Kampung Chamang to a factory in Janda Baik.

“When I arrived at the area (where the accident took place), I really did not see the hole and ended up being thrown and dragged into the middle of the road, luckily we were not hit by another vehicle,” he said.

“My feet were fractured even though I was wearing safety boots, I can’t imagine what it would be like if I wore normal shoes,” he added on.

Shahrizal also said that after the incident took place, he placed a safety cone in the hole after noticing that many vehicles have become victims of the pothole.

On a side note, Shahrizal said he and his wife received treatment at Bentong Hospital before lodging a police report.

“My wife and I are still in pain and have been resting at home. We are required to follow up with the doctor in a week’s time,” he said.

We hope the authorities will take action and prevent these unnecessary accidents from ever reoccurring.
