A hardworking father and his two daughters aged six and ten, are currently homeless after moving from Johor Bahru to Selangor to make ends meet for their family.
The middle-aged father, who is the sole guardian and provider for his daughters, works long and hard, selling fried you tiao (cakoi) at a stall outside Restoran Peng Chu in Taman Serdang Perdana, Seri Kembangan, as said in a report by Sin Chew Daily. “I just came from JB. I don’t have a home to sleep in. I just want to rent a house. Can you help me? Thank you for your help,” read a handwritten sign that was found on the table of the stall. The name of his business directly translates to “Good Father’s You Tiao.”
According to a Facebook post shared with a group back in June, it is believed that the father used to sell you tiao in Johor Jaya after kind citizens supplied him with materials and free lessons on how to make fried you tiao from other hawkers in the industry. However, the man and his family ended up moving to Selangor due to their struggling financial situation brought about by the pandemic. In spite of these circumstances, the humble man doesn’t beg for money.
“Don’t give me money, as long as you support my business and give me your feedback, it is enough! If I can do well, I can make money and afford rent. The rest of my problems I can think about later,” said the determined you tiao seller.
He opens his stall every morning and sells a variety of yummy fried delicacies aside from you tiao. There’s also red bean pancakes, sesame donuts, and five-spice donuts available for RM1 each.
“It’s not that simple taking care of two daughters. With the current Covid-19 situation, there’s zero income. My pockets are empty. It’s okay if adults don’t eat but my children need to eat,” said the father in the Facebook post.
If you’re around the area, do visit “Good Father’s You Tiao” and support this hardworking uncle.
