Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli has announced that the state will enforce a ban on the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes starting on 2 August 2025.

He added that the decision was made based on the decision of the Perlis State Fatwa Committee in 2022, which deemed the use of vapes as Haram or forbidden in Islam.

Mohd Shukri was quoted by BERNAMA at a press conference after chairing the exco meeting at the Perlis State Legislative Assembly Complex yesterday (14 May) as saying that the local authorities (PBT) in Perlis will conduct monitoring and enforcement operations on business premises selling vape after 1 August 2025.

The Perlis Menteri Besar thus urges all vape traders in Perlis to find new businesses, as their licenses and business operations will be halted in August.

He further elaborated that while it is not possible to completely curb the use of vapes, he is optimistic that banning the sale of e-cigarettes and vapes will save young people from getting caught up in the unhealthy habit.

For illustration purposes

Perlis is the second state to announce a ban on the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes after the Terengganu State Government also announced something similar last month.

Similar to Perlis, Terengganu will not grant business licenses to any premises that sell vapes and e-cigarettes starting in August 2025.
