Being a woman in Malaysia is not as straightforward or safe as it should be. Apart from dealing with sexual harassment in public places such as markets, it seems that they are not even safe in private.

Recently, the Twitter page Cringe Malaysian took to the platform to upload a screenshot of comments left by lorry drivers after one shared a picture of a woman in her car next to him and shared some “positive words of encouragement” for his fellow truck drivers.

In the picture of a woman who had her thighs exposed in the car next to him, the lorry driver wrote, “Don’t get stressed out whenever you are stuck in a traffic jam. You must be brave and strong-hearted. My eyes have been blessed, so I need to share this.”
Other lorry drivers commented, “Eye candy,” and that this is the “advantage of being in a higher vehicle”.

“The sight of thighs can make you feel that way?”

The post by the lorry driver made its way on Twitter, where netizens bashed him for being inappropriate and sexualising the unknown female driver. Many of them expressed their disgust with the dirty comments left by the lorry drivers.

“(That is why) if there’s a lorry next to me, I won’t stop my car in line with its window. Either I’d be slightly in front or behind. They don’t know how to control their gaze. Sometimes they’d stare as if they had never seen a woman before,” said a user.

Another netizen condemned them for sexualising women’s bare thighs. “You feel horny just by seeing a woman’s thighs.”

Meanwhile, a couple of netizens highlighted the importance of tinting your car to prevent situations like these. “Ladies, please install 100% tint on your car windows to avoid being seen by these perverts,” commented one user.

“This is why I’m setting aside some cash to have my car tinted,” said another.

We hope this serves as a reminder to all women to be careful and aware of their surroundings as perverts seem to be everywhere.
