Everyone is cordially invited to this event, except the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

A TikTok video recently circulated online, which invites “Basikal Lajak” enthusiasts to gather and ride at Hentian Damai in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya. According to the invitation, the event is scheduled to take place tomorrow (May 24) at 3:20 PM and is expected to last until 6 PM. The video also made it crystal clear that everyone is more than welcome to participate in the event, but not the authorities.

“Everyone is invited to spice up the event, except the police.”

Although the invitation was not extended to PDRM, the police, however, have responded to the event via an official statement last night (May 22) and said they received a report about the matter.

The invitation video also showed a group of kids riding dangerously on their modified bikes, and PDRM said an investigation paper has been launched under Section 81 of the Road Transportation Act 1987 for organising an event involving vehicles without a permit.

The video is no longer online, but a screenshot of the invitation is still circulating.

PDRM also urged those who have information about the event to reach out to the police and aid in the investigation.

“The public is also reminded to abide by the traffic rules.”

In case you have forgotten, a group of kids on modified bikes in Johor Bahru died in 2017 after Sam Ke Ting, who was only 22 at the time, accidentally hit them with her car. The Court of Appeal eventually freed Sam and acquitted her of all charges of murder by reckless and dangerous driving.

Unfortunately, Sam Ke Ting’s case has not deterred those who still find joy in riding these modified bikes from taking part in this dangerous activity.
