Other than using a clean piece of cloth, we can’t imagine any other way to clean a microwave. But an employee of a convenience store has recently shocked many Malaysians with his “quick and easy” way to clean a microwave.

Just recently, the images of an employee of a convenience store cleaning a microwave using a mop has gone viral on social media. This did not sit well with many people, especially those who regularly visit the convenience store. The location of the outlet, however, was not disclosed.

Since then, many angry Malaysians have tagged the local convenience store, to which they immediately responded in the comment section and assured the people that they have already taken immediate action against the said employee.

The convenience store released an official statement

Yesterday (January 24), the convenience store publicly apologised to all Malaysians regarding the matter via its Facebook page.

“This is a clear violation and does not reflect the high standards that we strive to maintain in all of our stores.”

The store also assured that history will not repeat itself following the actions that have been taken against the employee who failed to comply with the strict sanitation protocols.

Additionally, the store also confirmed that the said employee has been suspended from duty, and customers can be relieved now that the microwave at the outlet has been replaced with a brand new one.

“The store is undergoing a thorough cleaning and sanitisation process.”

In response to a comment that questioned the training for all employees, the store said,

“We do offer training programmes for our employees before starting on duty on our stores, which includes cleanliness & hygiene SOPs.”

Hopefully, this will serve as a reminder to everyone out there, especially those who are working in the retail and F&B department to NOT take hygiene issues lightly. We’ll never know what kind of danger that can happen with only one negligence.
