The bodies of a married couple were discovered at their home yesterday (June 14) in Raub, Pahang, located above an old shophouse.
The corpses had already begun decomposing, and the couple is believed to have been dead for approximately five days.
The married couple, who were senior citizens were both ill, with the man, 75-year-old He Dongshen (transliteration) suffering from heart disease and his wife, 73-year-old Luo Jin E (transliteration) suffering from stroke, and was also paralysed.
They are survived by two children who live in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. The children had visited their parents in Raub nearly two weeks ago during the school holidays.
The bodies were discovered by Dongshen’s 70-year-old younger brother, who lives in the same block and had not seen them for several days. He noticed the lights in their home were off and initially assumed they had gone out with their children.
At around 10 am yesterday (June 14), concerned, he tried to look into the house from the back stairs and saw Dongshen lying unconscious on the kitchen floor, with his wife also unconscious in the living room. He then contacted a relative, who helped call the police.
Due to the decomposed state of the bodies, firefighters had to wear protective clothing and oxygen masks to safely remove them.
According to the Raub District Police Chief, the couple’s son stated that his mother had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease, which had worsened over the years. She was unable to walk or speak properly and had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Sin Chew reported.
Raub Hospital later confirmed that the couple died of heart disease.
